John Denver is a popular performer and songwriter that has touched many people with his music. Many of these have roots in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell in New Mexico. He was enthralled by Colorado and eventually settled in Aspen. Denver's popular state anthems have attracted many to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame stated the following: John Denver is the only performer to embody Colorado. In 2011 Denver was selected as the Hall of fame's first inductee. Today, he is seen as a symbol of Colorado to people from throughout the world. It is commonplace to meet people from different countries, such as New Zealanders. You tell them "I am from Colorado" then they reply "Oh John Denver. Brown declared. Denver's debut Top 10 hit as a solo artist following a brief period of performing with small folk groups comprised of Take Me Home Country Roads which was co-written by Bill Danoff. Danoff had originally written the tune using Johnny Cash's songs in head, however Denver knew from the first time he listened to the earlier versions that the track would become a major hit. The song was performed at Washington D.C. to a large audience, Denver made a recording a few days later.
